Prince Harry has openly responded to persistent rumours about his relationship with Meghan Markle, dismissing speculation of marital discord.
Speaking at the New York Times DealBook Online Summit, he joked about the relentless gossip, saying, “Apparently, we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, or 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?”
The Duke’s remarks come after recent instances where the couple have attended events separately, sparking chatter about a “professional separation.” While Harry aimed to dispel the rumours, his decision to address them publicly has drawn mixed reactions.
Kate Mansey, Royal Editor for The Times, shared her views on The Royals podcast, calling it a “strange” move. She remarked, “I think it’s interesting that he’s addressing those rumours publicly. It seems like quite a strange thing to do. I think he’s rattled by a lot of what’s written about him, and he always has been.”
Mansey added that speaking out might inadvertently amplify the speculation, a risk that public figures often face.
Harry also used the summit as an opportunity to reflect on his life in the United States, where he and Meghan have been raising their two children, Archie and Lilibet, since stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
According to The Mirror, he expressed contentment with their decision to relocate, stating, “I very much enjoy living here and bringing my kids up here. It’s a part of my life that I never thought I was going to live. I feel as though it’s the life that my mum wanted for me.”
The Sussexes’ move to California marked a dramatic shift from their royal roles and sparked extensive media attention. Their decision to leave royal duties and embrace a new life in Montecito was seen as a bold redefinition of their public image.
The DealBook Summit, which hosted prominent personalities like Jeff Bezos and Serena Williams, provided a platform for Harry to address the rumours while shedding light on his current priorities.
Although his comments may have been an attempt to silence speculation, experts suggest the move could create more questions about his private life.
