‘Do you need pizza delivery or police’: UK police receives strange call, authority shares audio
A strange call for pizza delivery at the United Kingdom police helpline number shocked the authorities. Later, the call turned out to be a harrowing plea for help.
A Metropolitian police shared a call details on X, praising the handler for her quick-thinking. In the audio clip, a woman heard asking for the pizza delivery which shocked the call handler for a second but then she asked if the call is for police then to reply yes.
When the other side of call said yes then she recognised the woman is in trouble and asks her for one word responses so she can send officers round to help.
999 caller: “Pizza Delivery”
Call handler: “Pizza Delivery? Ok, do you require pizza delivery or do you require the police? If it’s the police, say yes.”
999 caller: “Yes”
Call handler: “Ok is the person that’s scaring you at the property now.”
999 caller: “Yes”
Call handler: “No problem, police are coming ok? Have they got any weapons, answer yes or no?”
999 caller: “No”
Call handler: “If he threatened to hurt you, tell me pepperoni. If he threatened to hurt the children, tell me cheese.”
999 caller: “Pepperoni”
Call handler: “Ok, the police will be with you very very shortly, ok?”
In a post on X, the police wrote, “Do you require a pizza delivery or the police? A heroic police emergency call handler has been commended for her quick-thinking after realising a call from a woman was in fact a disguise and an urgent call for help.”
