‘Big fat Indian wedding’: JD Vance’s picture with wife’s family goes viral
A photo of US vice president-elect JD Vance posing with his wife Usha Vance’s Indian family members has gone viral on social media. Following the picture’s circulation, social media users have come to Vance’s defense, countering previous accusations of racism and praising his connection to Indian culture. Some even remarked that the gathering resembled a “big fat Indian wedding.”
Vance, wearing a blue t-shirt and jeans, stands on the right side of the photo holding his son on his shoulder. His wife, Usha, dressed in a dull yellowish-brown outfit, is in the back left corner holding their daughter. About 21 family members are seen enjoying themselves around a table with cups and plates, seemingly in a backyard setting.
The location and date of the photo remain unknown.
Asha Jadeja Motwani, a Silicon Valley-based venture capitalist, reacted to the photo on social media platform X, commenting, “JD Vance at Thanksgiving. Reminds me of the big fat Indian wedding.”
Many social media users have shared their reactions to the photo, stressing Vance’s bond with his wife’s Indian family. One X user praised him for adapting to Indian culture, writing, “Lots of respect to Vance here for spending time with his wife’s fully Indian family. It can be hard for an outsider to adapt to Indian culture, especially with the older generation. Seems like they had a great time.”
Another user defended Vance against accusations of racism, citing the family photo: “If the right is racist, explain this Thanksgiving family picture of JD Vance?”
Others shared similar sentiments, with one writing, “Liberals: ‘Republicans are so racist.’ Meanwhile, JD’s family.” Another commented, “It blows my mind that JD Vance’s relatives look just like mine. This is the greatness of America.” A user even called Vance’s family “the best family in America.”
