Indian national man pleads guilty to possession of child sexual abuse material

Abdul Rouvoof Shaik, a 30-year-old Indian national and former cruise line employee, pleaded guilty to charges of possessing child sexual abuse material, the US attorney said on Friday.
Shaik faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, a supervised release period of up to life, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100, according to a statement released by the US attorney’s office.
Special agents from the US Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, discovered he had child pornography in his possession.
The sentencing hearing is set for April 16 before United States District Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle in New Orleans.
Court records reveal that Shaik, a former Carnival Cruise Lines employee, was apprehended in July 2024 at the Erato Street Cruise Terminal in New Orleans.
